Gapminder Screencast and Analysis.

1. A. The 2 development indications I chose for the first screencast were the improvements in technology(cell phone per 100 people ) and increases in income(GDP per capita).
For the second screencast, the 2 development indications I  chose were infant mortality(number children 1-5 years of age dying per 1,000 born) and the percentage of the labor force employed in the service sector.

B. These indicators provide insight on economic development in different ways. The first screencast provides insight because basically, the definition of development is "progress being made in technology, production and socioeconomic welfare". Cell phones are most definitely part of technology, and GDP per capita (income per person) which is also a key to development, because developed countries are obviously not poor and vice versa. The second screen cast also provides insight on development because in developed countries the infant mortality rate is typically very low, because developed countries have the advances in medicines and technology which saves lives. The other indication for my second screen cast has a completely different outlook on development. Instead of decreasing(in numbers) like infant mortality rate in a developed country, the percentage of workers employed in the service sector of the labor force increases in developed countries. This means that less people in the countries labor force is involved in jobs that require little to no education, such as agriculture and factory work. In developed countries, most people graduate from college and get a job in the service sector.

2.A. Technology is becoming increasingly popular in both LDC's and MDC's. Technology is much more successful in MDC's versus LDC's because it can be very expensive to purchase and maintain. Technology is diffused much quicker and effectively in developed countries rather than developing countries due to the higher wages and new major means of transportation that are located in more developed countries. The increase in income is popular in developed countries because the workers rights are much stricter than the laws in developing countries that just is trying to focus on production, not the safety of workers. Income diffuses when the service industry diffuses and gains more workers in this sector. The highest paying jobs are in the service sector, but these types of jobs require higher education. Infant mortality is a huge factor of development in LDC's! Most developing climates are in tropical climates, which have many fatal diseases that fortunately people living in cooler climates never have to experience. The infant mortality rate in more developed countries is obviously lower than the rate in developing countries. Because in MDC's, we have skilled doctors, scientists, high tech gadgets used by lots of health care professionals that all work together to save lives.

B. The tropical climates have many disadvantages, but so does cooler climates. But the disadvantages for each climate, are very different from the other climates disadvantage. Tropical climates have many diseases, droughts, cheap labor, low education and many natural disasters. LDC's are usually in tropical climates. But cooler climates have a short agricultural season, and different viruses from those of tropical climates. These are usually the MDC's, and these disadvantages are pretty easy to over look since we have antibiotics and other medicines, and the winter really only affects people that are employed in the agricultural sector, which in the U.S. is less than 7%. Infant mortality is decreasing in core countries due to new medicines, but it's not decreasing in the periphery, because they don't have access the the medicines that we are fortunate enough to have. And in some countries in Africa, the IMR it increasing because of the spreading of vectored diseases such as malaria. Fortunately, worker wages globally are becoming higher, and sooner or later, wages will be high enough to provide families with enough money to actually support themselves and put food on their table and make a living. Technology is increasingly becoming more and more popular, and now that wages are being raised, more people will be able to purchase basic technology and it will have an even more extreme rapid growth. People will start making enough money, not only by raising wages, but by switching jobs to more fulfilling jobs that have an even higher income! Of course service sector jobs require an intense education, that people all over the world wish that they could afford, but with the wages being raised in the primary and secondary sectors, people are now able to provide for their families and save some money for the education of their children. By just raising the wages by a little, it can have a huge output and it will help the world become a better, safer, healthier and more developed place. With happy people, you have a happy economy, which leads to a happy country, and this makes the world a better place. For everyone, and it can be just one happy home
